Gascoigne Wood was the Coal perperation plant washing and prepareing coal produced form a complex of 5 deep mines.

The selby complex was to be the largest deep mining complex in the world, Developed during the 70's the complex Provided coal for the nearby coal fired power stations in the region. Selby was when it opened healded as the future of deep mining,

The entire Complex was closed in 2004 when UK coal the owners claimed that high mantence costs meant that the seams were no longer viable, despite Millions given in govement aid.
